What the LaptopSpec desk takes on, what it does not, and where to look first.
This page says what reaches the desk usefully and what does not. Most of what people write in about is already answered somewhere on the site, and the fastest route is usually the archive rather than an enquiry.
Corrections are the thing we most want
If a specification on a model page contradicts the manufacturer's own documentation, that is an error and it should be fixed. A useful correction names the page, the field, and the manufacturer document that contradicts it. A correction that names only the page and says the figure is wrong cannot be acted on, because the whole point of the archive is that every field traces to a published source.
What the desk does not do
- Valuations. We do not price individual second-hand machines. What we can do is tell you how to establish what a machine is — start with the model number and the serial lookup.
- Repair diagnosis. The manufacturer's service manual for your model is the right document, and it is usually free.
- Driver hunting for a specific machine. The procedure is written out in where laptop drivers come from, and it works better than a reply would.
- Buying recommendations. The guides exist so the decision stays yours.
Before writing in
Three pages answer most of what arrives. How we work explains where every figure on the site comes from and why historical prices are never updated. The archive indexes everything published, by year. The brand board is the fastest way to a particular machine, because the archive is organised by the name on the lid rather than by date.
Advertising
The site carries display advertising, which is marked as such on the page. Advertising has no bearing on what is published or on how a specification is recorded.
