Why the old pages are still here

Most of this archive documents machines you can no longer buy new, and that is deliberate. A specification page for a discontinued laptop is the only reliable place to check what a second-hand machine is supposed to contain: which memory slots exist, whether the storage is soldered, what the original panel was, which ports the chassis shipped with. Manufacturer sites drop that material a year or two after a model is retired. Anyone buying used, repairing, or arguing with a listing that claims more than the machine ever had needs it.

What a model page contains

The specification block as published, the announcement context, and the price that was quoted at the time with the currency it was quoted in. Prices are historical. They are useful for reading a used listing — a machine that launched near the top of its range still tends to sit above its siblings second-hand — and useless as a current quote. Nothing on these pages has been re-priced.

If the machine is not here

Coverage is deepest where the market was loudest: the netbook years, the first wave of thin-and-light mainstream machines, and the gaming laptops that followed them. If a model is missing, the closest sibling in the same brand archive usually shares the chassis and most of the specification, and the hardware section explains how to decode the part numbers on the machine in front of you.
