Toshiba coating NB200 netbook in silky pink and blue

Toshiba_NB200_netbook_silky_pink_ blue

The Dynabook UX / NB200 netbook has only been out for a few months now, but already Toshiba’s looking to score a few more buyers with two new hues. Originally launched in white, brown and black, Tosh has decided to queue up a pair of fresher, brighter colors for those looking for something a bit different. Now, you can expect the lappie to start making the rounds in “silky pink” and “blue,” though we get the feeling these will hit the UK first. Head on down to the read link for a hands-on gallery, but don’t expect any exciting new hardware — it’s still the same ole 1.6GHz Atom, 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard drive that we’re so painfully used to seeing.

Blockbuster selling Archos 10 netbooks at retail stores, we’re not sure why either

archos-blockbuster-netbook

Looking for a place to buy a netbook? Have you tried any of the thousands of online shops that offer them? Oh, they don’t look quite desperate enough for you? Perhaps you’d rather go somewhere that really needs your money: Blockbuster. Yes, the struggling video chain has made yet another partnership, this time with Archos to sell its Archos 10 10.2-inch netbook at 1,000 of its “select” retail outlets around these United States. The totally predictably spec’d (1.6GHz Atom, 1GB of Ram, 160GB HDD, etc.) netbook lacks any sort of special multimedia customization, and with no optical drive is completely unable to play any of the films you can rent from that same location (those are so obsolete anyway), but does at least come at a decent price: $299. Of course, you can get it right now at Amazon for the same exact moneys, and there you won’t have to fend off any salesmen with hungry eyes. But, if you’re looking for a little attention, this could be your big blue ticket.

Apple netbook rumors again

Apple_netbook
suggest an October launch at $800

The never ending saga of that which is said to be the Apple netbook has started again. This time, our sources tell us that Taiwanese companies Foxconn, Wintek, and Dynapack have already received orders from Apple.

Our fruit-bearing moles tell us that Wintek will be producing the touch screens, which are said to be about 9.7 inches diagonal, and supplying additional necessary technologies. Foxconn and Dynapack are said to be handling the actual assembly and packaging of the units. We also are hearing that a variety of other companies that will be supplying parts have already received orders from Apple, as well.

The pricing of the Apple netbook is said to be targeted at $800 U.S. and it will arrive in October just in time for the holidays. While we have heard many of these rumors before, it seems that we might be getting closer to the truth. Many other sources are indicating that while Foxconn will not confirm the Apple netbook project, privately some employees have whispered that this is the case; but they are also saying that the launch could be delayed until 2010 depending on parts availability and pricing.

We will just have to wait and see, but we predicted long ago that Apple would produce a netbook and that it was only a matter of time.
